Nowadays, there is a threat of chemical weapons (CW) being used during the increasingly frequent local armed conflicts and terrorist attacks. The most dangerous toxic chemicals that have ever been used as chemical weapons are organophosphorus nerve agents such as sarin, soman, VX, and Russian VX (VR). The analysis of human biological samples such as blood and urine is crucial for monitoring the exposure of workers involved in demilitarization activities and people who suffered from CW in terrorist attacks or in local armed conflicts. Therefore, the development of novel rapid and simple approaches for determining nerve agent biomarkers in such samples is a very important task of modern analytical chemistry.
