The stability of pMMA latexes prepared with surface-active initiators -2,2' -azo-bis(N-2-methylpropanoyl-2-amino-alkyl-1)sulfonates (AAS) has been studied in comparison with polystyrene dispersions. As to both polymers, their hydrophobicity is of great importance for stabilizing dispersions in the course of the polymerization synthesis. The greater hydrophobicity of polymer the higher zeta-potential of polymeric surface correlating with the greater electrostatic forces of particles repulsion and latex stability.
