The magnetic materials investigation in Moscow State University has been started in 1872 after A.Stoletov's curve (magnetic permeability dependence on magnetic field). In 1919 the magnetic laboratory was based by academician V.Arkadiev. And in 1931 the magnetic department in MSU was founded. Other magnetic research groups in Russia were based from this center with alumni. The results of magnetic materials investigation were oriented on the industrial application - electrical engineering, shipbuilding, automobile industry and so on. The other purpose of the researches was defectoscopy and product control. Nowadays there are some companies in Russia which are specialized in production of smart magnetic materials. Most of these companies were founded on the boundary of centuries. The success of the companies was due to experience of university alumni. The technology transfer in these cases was realized because of the alumni collaboration. Just two company are discussed as an example - AMT&C Group, Crocus nanoelectronics. Their activity is concentrated on such aspects of applied magnetism as magnetic refrigeration, scientific instrument-making, magnetic separation, cancer treatment and sensitive desorption of medical products, sorption of contaminations, methods of production of nanosized and nanostructured materials, the magnetic random access memory also. The internet of things and smart houses are promissed for application of smart magnetic materials in future.
