The Swan and WW3 wave models was implemented for the Baltic, White and Barents Seas with high resolution grids. We validated model results by using instrumental wave measurements. In general, wave height modeled successfully (RMSE=0,2-0,5 m, correlation = 0,8-0.9). Storm statistics was calculated for the Baltic, Barents and White Seas for the period 1979–2010. The local maximum in quantity of storms > 6m detected in early 1990s in the Barents sea. Storm activity in the Barents and Baltic seas slightly correlated with NAO and AOI, while the White Sea revealed no correlation. We could not find any connections between storm activity and area of winter ice in the Barents Sea.
