Investigation of anti-corrosion properties of 2-mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT) for copper, zinc and brass was performed. Electrochemical measurements shown suppression of anodic dissolution of all metals observed. By means of XPS chemical adsorption and formation of protective surface complexes Cu(MBT), Zn(MBT) and mixed CuZn(MBT) was stated. This comlex is probably of polymeric nature and reaches 4-9 nm in several hours of exposition in MBT solution.
