Аннотация:The age dynamics of negative personality traits in adolescence

The Dark Triad is a constellation of the negative traits: Machiavellianism, subclinical narcissism and subclinical psychopathy and it belongs to the most intensively studied personality constructs. Despite the increasing interest in negative personality traits, just a few studies are devoted to the Dark Triad in adolescence.
The purposes of the study were: 1) to determine the structure of the Dark Triad in adolescence; 2) to define the age-related changes in the Dark Triad traits; 3) to estimate the associations between the Dark Triad traits and behavior.
Methodological basis of the study was the Trait theory.
The object of the study was the Dark Triad in adolescence.
The subject matter concerned age-related differences in the Dark Triad in adolescence and age-related changes in the structure of the Dark Triad traits.
Methods: Russian adaptation of the Short Dark Triad questionnaire (SD3), the Portrait Dark Triad Inventory, the Short Inventory of the Big Five (B5-10), temperament scales from the TCI-125 (Reward Dependency and Openness to experience), the Portrait Sensation Seeking Inventory, the Bullying Questionnaire which was constructed for this study, short Moral Disengagement scale (MD-8), sociometry.
Results: 1) the Dark Triad in adolescence have the same structure as in adulthood, and there is no age-related differences in the level of the Dark Triad traits; 2) boys score higher on the Dark Triad traits than girls do; 3) the Dark Triad in adolescence has expected relations with personality domains, especially with the Big Five Agreeableness factor; 4) adolescents with the high level of the “dark” traits are more prone to bulling behavior; 5) the level of subclinical psychopathy is positively associated with the popularity among peers.
