The aim of the research work is to work out recommendation and suggestions for the use of linguistic dictionaries in the development of the lexical competence of the students of academic lyceums. The object of the research is the process of using linguistic dictionaries in increasing the vocabulary of the students of academic lyceums. The novelty of the research is outlined as the following: -in practice of using dictionaries, the difficulties of learning prepositions, articles, phraseological combinations, affixes in the development of the lexical competence of the students of academic lyceums have been established; -on the base of the communicative approach, the method of using explanatory, phraseological, translation dictionaries, dictionaries of synonyms, homonyms and antonyms in the development of the lexical competence of students in academic lyceums has been improved.
