A supported borane catalyst comprises 10-50 wt% of borane as an active component, and Lewis basic group-contg. modified polystyrene as a carrier in balance. The active component and the Lewis basic group are complexed and dispersed on the carrier surface. The borane is tris(pentafluorophenyl)boron, tris(tetrafluorophenyl)boron, tris(trifluorophenyl)boron, tris(difluorophenyl)boron, tris(fluorophenyl)boron or triphenylboron. The Lewis basic group-contg. modified polystyrene is amine modified polystyrene or triphenylphosphine resin. The inventive catalyst can be used for catalyzing complete redn. of arom. aldehyde or arom. ketone to prep. alkane, partial redn. of arom. aldehyde or arom. ketone to prep. alc. or ether, directly reductive amination of arom. aldehyde or arom. ketone with amine, and redn. of arom. aldehyde or arom. ketone with amine intermediate product imine. The catalytic activity, selectivity and reusability of the catalyst are obviously better than those of a homogeneous catalytic system and silicon-based silica carrier system.
