The method for producing bromobutyl rubber involves acting on a butyl rubber solution with a bromine-containing agent so that a reaction mass containing the end product is formed, neutralizing and washing the thus formed reaction mass and dividing said mass into the end product and bromine-containing liquid waste. Bromine is recovered from the bromine-containing liquid waste by the forced mass transfer of the liquid waste that is formed during the process with an oxidiser and a hydrocarbon extracting agent, and the oxidation of bromine compounds contained in the liquid waste and bromine extraction are carried out simultaneously. The thus formed bromine extract is separated from the mass transfer products and used as a bromine-containing agent for forming a reaction mass containing the end product.
