The problem of deviance and deviant behavior is acquiring special resonance today in the light of studies of social and psychological factors that affect the choice of behavior, create a special vulnerability and are potential targets for psychological help. The risk of starting drug use, delinquent and aggressive, self-destructive behavior is maximal in adolescence and youth, when such forms of behavior are not only often interconnected, but also tend to increase and transform to chronic forms. Despite the success of research on the role of psychological self-regulation factors of development and perpetuation of deviant behavior, both diagnosis and the psychological assistance to adolescents and young people with deviant behavior are often difficult because of their desire to hide their problems, to demonstrate well-being and socially desirable behavior during psychological examinations. In this regard, the fundamental task is to develop psychodiagnostics methods including implicit or indirect predictors of potentially dangerous behavior, which has the risk of becoming deviant one. This project is based on the methodology of "empirical keying" in psychodiagnostics, according to which from the initial set of points of the methodology, those are selected, the answers to which differ in the control and clinical groups. However, in this project “empirical keying” is accompanied by a separate analysis of the responses of adolescents and young people with different ("defensive" and "open") response strategies. The aim of the project is to identify and to describe the profiles of psychological self-regulation associated with the risk of adolescents and young people being involved in various deviant behaviors (with the risk of drug use, delinquent behavior, self-harm, including suicidal, behavior) taking into account their response strategies (“defensive” or “open” ones). On the basis of a theoretical analysis of psychological self-regulation in various variants of deviant behavior in adolescence and youth, the previously proposed methodological complex of psychological risk factors for involving adolescents in the use of psychoactive substances will be reconsidered and expanded. Then, items will be selected, the answers to which in adolescents and young people involved in drug use, as well as adolescents and young people with delinquent behavior, differ from the responses of the control group. Based on the results of psychometric analysis, these items will be combined into scales reflecting various aspects of self-regulation, and profiles of psychological self-regulation of adolescents and young people involved in drug use, as well as those with delinquent behavior, will be described separately for persons with “protective” and “open” response strategy. Empirical studies aim at identifying the relationship between these aspects of psychological self-regulation and cognitive insight, subjective assessment of regulatory functions, as well as with various forms of deviant behavior reported by young people (use of psychoactive substances, suicidal thoughts, aggressive behavior). Additional research will be devoted to the relationship between attitudes towards physical and "mental" pain in adolescents and youth who report self-destructive, including suicidal, behavior.
