The concept of preventive war in the context of the Franco-Polish alliance (1933-1934)
For decades historians and researchers alike were attracted to the topic of preventive war against Germany. In 1933 reports of Warsaw’s desire to strike Berlin preventively, circulating in the diplomatic circles of Poland and the West, were aimed, on the one hand, to check the solidity of the alliance with France and, on the other hand, to reach A. Hitler, who already at that time spoke about the necessity to adjust the Polish-German border. Moreover the withdrawal of Germany from the League of Nations and its severance with the conference on disarmament created a fundamentally new situation. It was vital for Poland to ensure a place at the table of future conferences, and for this it was necessary to demonstrate the ability to act independently.
