Аннотация:Abstract—Detailed geological and seismological studies of the Darvaz fault zone have revealed a very close correlation between its tectonic structures and the seismotectonic strain (STS) pattern determined from focal mechanisms of numerous earthquakes (M> 1) in the Garm area (Tajikistan). These data and results of regional geological studies are used to revise the current ideas of the leading role of the Darvaz strike-slip fault in the tectonic structure of the junction zone of the Tajik depression and the Northern Pamirs. The Darvaz fault is likely a secondary tectonic deformation feature in the hanging wall of the southward-vergent Gundara thrust, which developed from a bedding-plane detachment on the southeastern flank of the Alai-Kulyab depression. The tectonic movements on the NW dipping steep Gundara thrust, cutting the subvertical plane of the Darvaz fault at depths of 12-15 km, play a decisive role in the deformation regime of the tectonic structure discussed.
