Аннотация:Abstract—Recent horizontal movements measured at geodetic sites and data available on the geologic structure and earthquake focal mechanisms in the Caucasus and adjacent areas showed that recent the geodynamics of the region is controlled by the northward drift of the Arabian plate in the area south of the North Anatolia-Lesser Caucasus ophiolite belt and by the intraplate tectogenesis north of this belt. The main mechanism of intraplate tectogenesis
appears to be a secondary increase in the area of layered rocks. This may be attributed to the their volume enlargement, probably due to additional material supplied by ascending flows of abyssal fluids.
