Аннотация:Abstract. The tectonics setting of the Garm area is dominated by overthrust faults dipping at varying angles near the surface and at lower angles at depths. The faults are believed to have developed as shear thrusts parallel to bedding planes and hence can be traced to depth using geological evidence. These faults have been correlated, in terms of the Garm seismicity
pattern, with the inclined seismogenetic “layers” which where traced to depths of 20—35 km. These tectonic and seismic features are interpreted as the dominant factors that control the eismotectonics of the Garm area, situated in the junction zone between Pamirs and Tien Shan. The evidence presented in this paper disputes the existence of subvertical marginal
faults cutting across the crust which were postulated by many investigators.
