Аннотация:Cellulose is the major component of plant cell walls and the main
substrate in processes of biotransformation of lignocellulosic materials into
sugars and then into commercially valid organic compounds. Cellulases are used
to hydrolyze cellulose into sugars, thus different methods of protein engineering
are applied to improve biochemical properties of these enzymes and increase
efficiency of technological processes. Site-directed mutagenesis of N-linked
glycosylation sites was used as a way to change the biochemical properties of
endoglucanase II from Penicillium verruculosum. A significant increase of
hydrolytic activity of EGII was demonstrated towards β-glucan and
carboxymethylcellulose as model substrates and wood of aspen as a natural
substrate
