Аннотация:Amid economic slowdown and in response to overcapacity, China’s state-owned enterprises (SOEs) often use international cooperation projects as a way to create new markets for their products and increase profits. Electric power corporations are no exclusion. Through the analysis of international agreements and statistical data, as well as corporate annual reports, analytical papers and media coverage, this paper investigates the scope, forms and potential impact of China’s power industry internationalization. It argues that geographically diverse projects have several common features: most of them enjoy financial support from state- owned banks, are aimed at promotion of China’s engineering standards and utilization of existing domestic production capacity and labor force internationally. Additionally, it explores how expansion of China’s power companies provides both opportunities and challenges for global environmental sustainability.
