Аннотация:The temperature dependence of the Young’s modulus E and internal friction coefficient Q-1 of polycrystalline europium samples were studied in detail using the method of thin rod flexural vibration at a frequency 300 Hz in a temperature range 83-420 K. A very sharp nearly jump-like change in the above parameters was found to exist at the point TN≈87 K of magnetic phase transition paramagnetism-helicoidal antiferromagnetism. The experimental data for E(T) are analyzed within the framework of a phenomenological model of solids represented by an ensemble of anharmonic oscillators. On this basis the magnetic contribution Em(T) to the Young’s modulus has been derived adequately.
