Аннотация:Properties of red blood cells (RBC) have a huge influence on human health, so it is important to assess them and determine their alterations from the norm. Microrheologic properties are an indicator of socially important diseases such as diabetes mellitus, arterial hypertension, etc.
In this work, the methods of light diffractometry and diffuse scattering are used to evaluate in vitro RBC microrheologic properties: deformability of the cells and characteristics of the their spontaneous aggregation. The differences in these parameters between two groups of people were measured: healthy donors and patients suffering from arterial hypertension — a medical condition in which the blood pressure in the arteries is elevated.
The blood used in the study was drawn from patients with an average age of 59±3 years and a group of healthy donors with average age of 57±9, in total more than 60 people were involved.
We can conclude based on the results of our investigations that RBC aggregates of patients with arterial hypertension are stronger and form faster than those of healthy people. As for the deformability index, its difference between two groups is not statistically significant. Our results confirm the possibility of using methods of light scattering for monitoring the hemorheologic status of human patients and the progress of disease treatment.
