Intermolecular reactions in solutions of non-stoichiometric polyelectrolyte complexes, accompanied by changes in their composition, have been studied. As a result of such reactions, non-stoichiometric polyelectrolyte complexes are formed, having a uniform distribution of polyelectrolyte chains in respect of the polycomplex particles, and whose composition corresponds to that of the resulting polyelectrolyte mixture. The mechanism of these reactions is based on the concept of a significant amount of defects (loops) present in the polyelectrolyte complex structures. This mechanism assumes a stage of forming intermediate products, which however are not observed experimentally, due to the high rates of these reactions. © 1984.
