The Gouy-Chapman-Grahame (GCG) and the Gonzalez-Sanz (GS) models for the diffuse layer are employed to construct corrected Tafel dependences for the reactions S2O82- + 2e → 2SO42- and Fe(CN)63- + e → Fe(CN)64- proceeding on electrodes prepared from indium amalgams (51 and 2%), and for the former reaction on the mercury electrode, in the 5 × l0-4M K2S2O8 + xM K2SO4 mixtures with the total concentration of cations K+ varying fortyfold. It is shown that the best agreement with the experiment is ensured by the GS model when using the activity of the S2O82- ion on the outer Helmholtz plane as the concentration variable. However, when using the concentration of the S2 O82- ions on the same plane as the concentration variable, the GCG model ensures a better agreement with the experiment than the GS model. © 1998 MANK Hayka/Interperiodica Publishing.
