Аннотация:We analyze the distribution functions of caves by their morphometric parameters (length and amplitude). The analysis is based on existing databases of caves of the Earth, USA, Slovenia, Russia as a whole and its separate regions. As is known, the cumulative distribution function of natural objects over a certain parameter x obeys the power law N(x>X)=X0X-α, where N(x>X) is the number of objects with the value x>X. The analysis of the databases shows that the distribution of the caves of Russia by the length l obeys the function N(l>L)≈(166000±8000)L-1. The exponent α≈1 is close to the value obtained earlier for caves in Slovenia (α=1,08). The resulting distribution makes it possible to estimate the total number of caves (cave systems) in Russia longer than 5 m – about 33000. The distribution of caves by amplitude is more complex. The exponent α of this cumulative distribution function for the Russian caves is close to 2. Analysis shows that only about 52% of caves longer than 100 m are included in the speleoatlas.ru database, taking into account the new cavities that have not been passed yet.
