Аннотация:Values of specific adsorption of Br** minus ions were calculated in pure potassium bromide solutions and in the same solutions containing 0. 05 M thiourea (TU); the KBr concentrations, c//1, ranged from 0. 01 to 2 M, the charge densities, q, of the mercury electrode ranged from 0 to 10 mu C/cm**2. In view of this, it was of interest to attribute the data obtained to certain adsorption isotherms and electric double-layer models. It is interesting to note that in all cases studied where charge reversal of the electrode surface is produced by the specifically adsorbed ions as their concentration is increased, the isotherms at q equals const are very nicely described by a simple virial isotherm. Calculations show that Br** minus adsorption in the presence of TU (Thiourea) also is described much less perfectly than with the authors’ isotherm when a system of two virial isotherms is used which disregards the potential drop across the diffuse layer. Thus, the competitive adsorption of Br** minus ions and TU (Thiourea) molecules on the Hg electrode cannot be described merely in terms of their lateral interaction in the adsorbed layer as conveyed by the constant parameter B//1//2.
