Аннотация:A model for the compact part of the electric double layer at the interface between an electrode and an aqueous solution of surface-inactive electrolyte is proposed. The model accounts for the existence of two types of solvent species in the compact (aggregates of water molecules which can freely orient themselves with respect to the field, and chemisorbed water dipoles), as well as for electrostatic interaction between these species. The model proposed allows one to interpret the chief properties of the compact part of the double layer at mercury, cadmium, and bismuth electrodes in aqueous fluoride solutions.
