Аннотация:The GEI of passerine nestlings can be essentially lower than the calculated value due to less energy spent for thermal regulation. The specific GEI at the initial stage depends on the chick's growth rate (r0 of the logistic equation), whereas later, on the parameter A which determines the position of maximum of the function describing food consumption [Y(g/chick x days] = -AX2 + BX, where X is the age in days]. The metabolism energy differs significantly among chicks in a brood which results in different body mass essential for survival of the chicks which just left the nest. The MEC of the first and second broods depends essentially on the food quality; average MEC values for different broods, however, do not differ significantly.
