The analytical potentialities of an AI-05 instrument for capillary zone electrophoresis were examined using the determination of alkali, alkaline-earth, and transition metal cations as an example. The reproducibility of retention times and peak areas was 0.06-0.08 and 0.1, respectively. The plot of the analytical signal of Sr2+ against the concentration in the sample was linear within the range 1 × 10-5-1 × 10-4 M. The phenomenon of discrimination of the ionic composition of a sample in the electromigration method of sample injection is discussed. The time taken to separate a mixture of K+, Na+, Mg2+, Sr2+, Ca2+, Cd2+, Co2+, Ni2+, and Zn2+ was 16 min. © 1998 MAEe cyrillic signK Hayκa/Interperiodica Publishing.
