We reduced the sample to 370 experiments, limiting it to the compositions of the normal series of mafic
rocks, and obtained the coefficients by optimizing the power equation:

Equation (2) reproduces Fe3+ / Fe2+ in experimental melts better than equation (1). In the range of relations
from 0 to 2.6, with a 95% probability, the calculated ratio of iron forms differs from the unknown true by
an amount not exceeding ± 0.02.
