Аннотация:According to the sea level observations at four hydrometeorological stations in the North Caspian during the period from 2003 to 2017, the characteristics of storm surges were obtained. For the surges heights were taken the values of the level, which by 30 cm exceeded the average monthly sea level at this point. In total, 370 surges were registered, of which 83% occurred in the cold part of the year (September-April). The maximum height of the surge was 125 cm, the maximum duration was seven days.
On the basis of the operational hydrodynamic model of the level and currents of the Caspian Sea, atmospheric forcing from the COSMO model were used to simulate the most significant surges аt Tyulenii island. The average correlation coefficient between simulation data and observations was 0.94.
