Аннотация:Background: P300 component of ERP is an important indicator of response inhibition in a Go/NoGo task. Previous studies revealed increased P300 amplitude in NoGo condition compared with Go condition where the response inhibition isn’t required (Bokura et al., 2001). These results were found mainly in right-handers. The aim of this study is to find the differences in response inhibition in individuals with different lateral asymmetry. Methods: 27 participants were twice divided in two groups: right-eyed and left-eyed participants (N = 18 and N = 9, respectively) and right-handers and left-handers (N = 19 and N = 8). They performed Go/NoGo tasks. The first one: green or red rings were presented alternately to the left or right of the image of a butterfly. The second one: green or red spots were presented alternately on the left or the right wing of a butterfly. The participants were asked to press different keys depending on the place of the green stimulus (Go) and ignore red stimulus (NoGo). ERPs on these stimuli were recorded. Results: We found significant differences in the amplitude of ERPs in the condition NoGo using Student’s t-test. The P300 amplitude was larger for the left-eyed participants in the leads F3 (t = -3.376, p < 0.05), F4 (t = -2.910, p < 0.05), F7 (t = -2.344, p < 0.05), F8 (t = -2.436, p < 0.05), Fz (t = -3.356, p < 0.05) in the first task; for the left-handers in the leads F4 (t = -2.984, p < 0.05), F7 (t = -2.221, p < 0.05), F8 (t = -2.151, p < 0.05), Fz (t = -3.410, p < 0.05) in the first task; for the left-eyed participants in the lead Fz (t = -2.173, p < 0.05) in the second task; while there were no significant differences in the frontal leads between the right- and left-handers in the second task. Discussion: P300 is associated with decision making and it is recorded in the frontal cortex due to the involvement of voluntary attention (Lietal, 2010). We found the increased P300 amplitude in the frontal brain areas. It may be related to a rising role of voluntary control and contribution of the frontal brain areas in individuals with left vector of the lateral asymmetry. Conclusion: Individuals with different types of lateral asymmetry use various cognitive resources for response inhibition.
