A Synthesis of Science and Art. The Integrated Museum of Earth Sciences was founded 70 years ago at the underconstruction building of the Moscow University on Vorobyovy Hills following a decree of the USSR Council of Ministers. Inspired by the great Victory, the country was advancing to new heights of science, art and education. The Museum of Earth Sciences was intended to not only present theachievements of natural sciences, but to do this in an atmosphere of palace architecture, sculptural portraits and paintings by the best artists. The demanding task of harmonizing the display of natural phenomena from a cosmic scope to a micro world; geological processes; the evolutionary history of life on Earth; realistic landscapes; and architecture was accomplished, despite many challenges, with the appearance in the high-rise part of the main building of the Moscow University of a unique museum complex demonstrating the synthesis of science and art.
