Аннотация:We report abundant lecanicillia fungi isolated from deteriorated limestone and plaster in interiors of cultural heritage sites in Russia. The phylogenetic analysis of ITS rDNA and TEF1a sequences coupled with morphological observations showed one of the Lecanicillium isolates as a new species, which we describe here as L. gracile sp. nov. Lecanicillium gracile is morphologically similar to the closely related species, such as L. coprophilum, L. restrictum and L. testudineum, but it differs from them by the ability to produce phialides secondarily on the preceeding phialides. Another abundant Lecanicillium isolates grouped with the other two recently described lecanicillia species, namely L. testudineum and L. coprophilum. Hence, we leave those isolates unidentified. A third species isolated from deteriorated limestone and plaster in interiors was identified as Parengyodontium album, which is phylogenetically close to Lecanicillium and produces zigzag-shaped tips of conidiogenous cells. Given high abundance of the isolated species and their physiological traits, we conclude that they are involved in deterioration of stone materials in interiors of cultural heritage and deserve attention during restoration works.
