Аннотация:The ecological hazard of marl mining dumps in Novorossiysk city in the foothills of the North-West Caucasus on the Black Sea coast was investigated. It was found that the urban soil cover is highly influenced by precipitating dust coming from the dumps. The ecological impact on geochemical landscapes is manifested in changing chemical element concentrations, which can also affect human health in the course of environmental migration. This led to the necessity to consider ways to abate the fugitive dust emission and to rehabilitate the dumps. The analysed data allowed choosing amongst the possible ways to cultivate the mine wastes. Marl mining dumps are a key source of dust in the air, so the proposed reclamation measures are aimed at developing a newly established biocenosis and making the soil cover evolve, getting abundant with microbial communities required to protect the dumps from erosion. A stable plant cover will emerge in three years in case of taking care of the trees and bushes planted.
