Аннотация:The study of natural and resource potential of officinal plants of Ciscauca-sia, i.e. plants permitted for medical use by the Ministry of Health care of Russia, has been implemented by using the database developed by authors of the Medical-Geographical Atlas of Russia “Healing Springs and Plants”. Ciscaucasia flora of officinal plants consists of 153 species from 126 genera and 54 families. The predominating families: Asteraceae (22 species), Orchi-daceae (12), Rosaceae (10) and Apiaceae (10). Most of officinal species grow in forest and shrub communities, many species are cultivated in planta-tions. By natural features Ciscaucasia may be divided into three parts: West-ern and Central with favorable conditions for plants, and the Eastern part with less suitable climatic conditions. Therefore, the regional specifics of of-ficinal plants distribution results in 150 species in Western and Central parts and only 67 species in the Eastern part. Officinal plants have various phar-macological properties: antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, cardiotonic, hemostat-ic, hypotensive, expectorant and many others due to high concentrations of active substances. Officinal plants are used for treatment of 14 principal classes of diseases (according to International Statistical Classification of Diseases (ICD-10)). The most frequent use is for curing diseases of the di-gestive system, diseases of the circulatory system and diseases of the respir-atory system. Large-scale stocking of medicinal raw materials results in re-ducing wild-growing plants populations. Those processes are dangerous be-cause the areas with nature protection status are scanty, all the while 13 of-ficinal species are included into the Red Data Book of Russia and another 12 species – into regional Red Data books.
