Аннотация:The paper is devoted to the problem of horizontal stress profiles reconstruction based on wellbore data. We consider an unconventional approach to reconstruct horizontal stresses – the one based on analysis of borehole image logs provided data on natural shear fractures in the well vicinity. A detailed analysis makes it possible to determine which of these fractures are critically stressed in the current stress field and, subsequently, estimate the horizontal stresses. We mostly focus on choice of the proper correlation function describing whether the critically stressed fractures classification based on image logs analysis is in agreement with stress profiles estimations. Four different possible correlation functions are considered in total. A synthetic set of data on critically stressed fractures is analyzed in terms of effect that errors in fractures classification from geophysical data impose on the solution of inverse problem of stress reconstruction. It is shown that there are different preferences of choosing the proper correlation function depending on amount and quality of data related to natural fractures in the well vicinity.
