Аннотация:Medium polarity effects on the electronic structure, emission spectra, and the energy characteristics of formation of exciplexes are considered. A model of mutually consistent medium and exciplex polarizations is suggested. The model takes into account the influence of medium polarization induced by a dipole with a variable degree of charge transfer on the energies of locally excited (LE) and complete charge transfer (CT) states and their electronic interaction. The model gives a quite satisfactory quantitative description of the dependence of the emission frequency of the exciplex, the contribution of the CT state to its electronic structure, and the rate constant for exciplex emission on the driving force of electron transfer and the permittivity of the medium. The energies of the LE and CT states are described by the simple Kirkwood equation. Each exciplex is characterized by three parameters, namely, the difference of the energies of the LE and CT states in vacuum, the energy of electronic interaction between these states, and the dipole moment of the contact ion pair (the description of a molecule with a constant dipole moment requires the use of a single parameter). The suggested model gives results in close agreement with the reported experimental data on 9,10-dicyanoanthracene and 1,2,9,10-tetracyanoanthracene exciplexes.
