Аннотация:https://doi.org/10.1016/j.wneu.2021.09.051The placement of external ventricular drainage (EVD) is one of the most frequently used neurosurgical procedures. Itis used for the correction of intracranial hypertension in cases of serious craniocerebral injury, acute hydrocephalus, meningitis, and oncologic diseases related to the disorder of liquor circulation. Generally, EVD implantation is carriedout by resident neurosurgeons or specialists with long-term experience, and it is done manually or by sight with dueregard to the craniometric points.[6,16,8] Last decades the neuronavigation devices getting popular and useful toincrease accuracy of EVD implantation , but in high volume neurosurgical centers EVD implantation is provided inintensive care units without neuronavigation in majority of the cases3. This fact relates to the risk of unsatisfactorypositioning of the catheter and complication risks, which have been described in numerous studies.[5,15]At the N.N. Burdenko National Medical Research Center for Neurosurgery (BNC), EVD placement isperformed more than 200 times a year. But despite the vast experience and qualification of specialists, there is a riskof development of hemorrhagic and infectious complications, as well as unsatisfactory intracranial catheterpositioning. Thus, the goal of this work is to analyze the dependence of complication risk and unsatisfactory catheterposition on different factors related to EVD implantation.
