Аннотация:We present the results of a theoretical investigation of the effect of boundary surfaces of a liquidcrystal cell on the effective dielectric susceptibility of the helical structure of a ferroelectric smectic C* liquid crystal (FLC). We consider for this purpose the deformation and untwisting of the helix by solid surfaces bounding the FLC layer. An analytic expression is obtained for critical thickness d (c) of the liquid-crystal layer, for which untwisting of the helix by surfaces takes place. In calculating the effective dielectric susceptibility, it is shown that the deformation of the FLC helix by the boundaries leads to the occurrence of anisotropy in the effective dielectric susceptibility in the plane perpendicular to the helix axis.
