Аннотация:In a recent article [AIChE J. 2020, 66, e16651], Lei et al. compared several extended Debye-Hückel models for mean ionic activity coefficients which utilize concentration dependent solution permittivity and reported a surprising finding that two of apparently different equations produce the same numerical results. In this comment, we report a mathematical proof confirming this finding and take up an opportunity to present our extended Debye-Hückel theory [J. Phys. Chem. B 2015, 119, 10087] in a more concise and lucid form. These results shed new light on the origin of classic electrostatic terms with variable solution permittivity and may be useful in designing new predictive molecular thermodynamic models.
