Аннотация:Twin oil (20 & 24 inch) and gas (20 & 48 inch) pipeline systems stretching 800 kmare being constructed to connect offshore hydrocarbon deposits from the Sakhalin II concessionin the North to an LNG plant and oil export terminal in the South of Sakhalin island. Theonshore pipeline route follows a regional fault zone and crosses individual active faults at 19locations. Sakhalin Energy, Design and Construction companies took significant care to ensurethe integrity of the pipelines, should large seismic induced ground movements occur during theOperational life of the facilities. Complex investigations including the identification of the activefaults, their precise location, their particular displacement values and assessment of the faultkinematics were carried out to provide input data for unique design solutions. Lateral andreverse offset displacements of 5.5 and 4.5 m respectively were determined as the single-eventvalues for the design level earthquake (DLE) - the 1000-year return period event. Within theconstraints of a pipeline route largely fixed, the underground pipeline fault crossing design wasdeveloped to define the optimum routing which would minimize stresses and strain usinglinepipe materials which had been ordered prior to the completion of detailed design, and tospecify requirements for pipe trenching shape, materials, drainage system, etc. Detailed Designwas performed with due regard to actual topography and to avoid the possibility of the trenchesfreezing in winter, the implementation of specific drainage solutions and thermal protectionmeasures.
