Vernadsky Institute of Geochemistry, Moscow, Russian Federation Environmental pollution of the biosphere and ecotoxicants became an issue of high priority in modern science. Our experimental studies [1-22] demonstrated a variety of biological effects produced by xenobiotics and ecotoxicants. The priority biological, toxicological and biogeochemical effects and phenomena which are worth further studying include: (1) Genotoxic effects (e.g., the effects that are being detected by Ames test with Salmonella typhimurium and rat microsomes) [8, 10, 12] . (2) Various membranotropic effects [4]. (3) A variety of macroscopic effects that could serve as a basis for bioassay, toxicity testing and hazard assessment [19-22]. (4) Effects associated with immobilization of ecotoxicants (heavy metals, rare earth elements) by samples of biogenic material [23]. (5) Toxic effects and immobilization phenomena which are found in experiments with nanomaterials that can pollute the environment [24]. Another recent result was a discovery of toxicity of nanoparticles of gold in a system with aquatic plants (Kotelevtsev, Orlov, Poklonov, Ostroumov, in press). (6) Phenomena of chemical-biotic interactions that could be used in remediation of polluted environment. These six groups of effects and phenomena that were listed above exemplify some of the modern priorities in studies of interdisciplinary issues of chemical-biotic interactions, ecotoxicology, and ecological and molecular geochemistry. These studies could complement modern achievements in biomedical research of xenobiotics and in environmental toxicology of the biosphere. Acknowledgements.
