Аннотация:“xpr-kA-Ra in Greek”: Senwosret I in the Propaganda of Dynasty XXX and its Possible Replicas in the Classical Tradition
Ivan A. Ladynin
The article considers the royal titles of Nectanebo I that includes the solar prenomen xpr-kA-Ra having the most significant parallel in the similar title of Senwosret I. Probably, the best attested qualities of this actual founder of the Middle Kingdom were his ability to perform effectively the ritual (ascribed to him with the specific title nb irt xt “Lord of Performing Things”, which was introduced in his reign) and his activities of the social founder (according to O.D. Berlev, they were eventually reflected in the Classical tradition of Sesostris/Sesonchosis). The former quality is ascribed to Nectanebo I with his Horus’ name *mA-aA (“Strong with (His) Hand”), which is a close parallel to nb irt xt (Blümenthal 1970: 133-134). As for the second quality, it is shown quite definitely in the image of Sesostris/Sesonchosis depicted by the Greek writes of the 4th century B.C. (Dicaearchus of Messena and Aristotle); however, in their accounts the image of the social founder is mingled with that of the great warrior. The only depiction of the Egyptian king-founder, who would not be at the same time a warrior, is that of King Busiris in the homonymous speech by Isocrates. The name of this king has certainly a root related to the name of Osiris; shall it be interpreted as pr-aA Wsir “King Osiris”, it is likely to be connected with the notion of the reign of Osiris well-attested in the monuments of Senwosret I (e.g., the stela Louvre C2). In other words, there is a possibility that the image of Busiris known to Isocrates is a contamination of the reminiscences on Senwosret’s activities to the notion of Osiris’ reign. Symptomatically, Busiris must have been written by Isocrates in early 370s, i.e. synchronously to the early reign of Nectanebo I. A possibility that this image was instigated with the Egyptian propaganda of that time taking its bearings from the reminiscences of Senwosret I should be thought of.
