Аннотация:The article reviews recent developments in the study of the Hittite-Assyrian relations in the second half of the 13th century BCE.It is argued that there is no sufficient evidence for reconstructing two military conflicts between Hatti and Assyria duringthe reign of Tukultī-Ninurta I (1233-1197 BCE). The battle of Nihriya described in the Ugarit letter RS 34.165 should bedated to the time of the previous Assyrian king Shalmaneser I (1263-1234 BCE). It was a part of a large-scale war whichlasted for several years at the end of Shalmaneser’s reign. The Hittite and Assyrian sources available for the last third of the13th century BCE may testify to military incidents and mutual tensions, but at the same time they do not allow much room forprolonged full-fledged conflicts between two countries.
