Аннотация:The rapidly expanding use of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) in the separation of hard-to-separate mixtures of compounds, purification of substances, solid-phase extraction, heterogeneous catalysis, targeted drug delivery, and other capacities requires information on the adsorption properties of these materials. The present work demonstrated the possibilities of the chromatographic method for investigating the adsorption properties of some MOFs and MOF-based composites. It is shown that the nonanalytical application of chromatography provides a possibility to reveal the details of the adsorption process involving MOFs, which are not available by other methods, namely, to evaluate the accessibility of MOF pore space, including micropores, and permeability of the framework for adsorbate molecules. In addition, chromatography makes it possible to assess the energetics of the interaction and the degree of localization of adsorbate molecules in the pores of a metal–organic framework. The features of the adsorption process in MOF-based materials, which are determined by chromatographic methods, elucidate possible mechanisms of adsorption binding of organic molecules in the MOF pores. These data enable one to improve the performance characteristics by tuning the structure of MOFs and MOF-based composites.
