Аннотация:Hypoxia is defined as a reduction in the amount of oxygen available to a cell, tissue or organism. It should be taken into consideration that oxygen level in most tissues is normally 4-7%, and less amount of oxygen, which is referred as hypoxia, initiates a cascade of cell reactions. Hypoxic conditions are required for certain stages of normal embryogenesis, such as heart and lung development. However in adult tissues hypoxia is considered to be a pathological factor. Many human diseases, including ischemic heart disease, stroke, pulmonary disease, diabetic angiopathies and cancer, are accompanied by disturbance in oxygen supply due to artery thrombosis and obliteration, disbalance in blood gases ratio or anemia. Signaling pathways which mediate cell responses to hypoxia are intensively investigated although still not fully understood. A growing body of evidences reveals that microRNAs (miRNAs) are important mediators of the cell response to hypoxia. In this paper we summarize data of recent studies, including our own, regarding changes of miRNAs expression as a part of the cell response to hypoxia.
