Аннотация:What do we mean by global science fiction, world SF, SF from the margins or the periphery, SF from the Global North or the Global South? This panel unpacks these multiple terms used often in overly general ways that obscure practices of explicit and implicit racism, colonialism and imperialism embedded in the political and social hierarchies and structures as well as the cultural assumptions and practices that govern their use. The various scholarly locations and backgrounds of the panel members provide unique and intersecting perspectives on ways to describe this dynamic and exciting reckoning in the study of the genre with SF circuits other than those emanating from the US and UK outward. SF works from other countries are not mere cheap imitations of the West but rather critical and original contributions that engage complex local and regional discourses to participate in an increasingly cosmopolitan generic culture.
