Аннотация:Few measurements have been made on the turbulent characteristics of atmospheric and oceanic vortices, and therefore extensive use is made of various ways of
precalculating turbulent stresses in describing them. These are usually based on themixing-path hypothesis. The linear phenomenological transport equations
are violated when there is marked disequilibrium and developed turbulence in vortices. Formally, these effectsmake it necessary to incorporate negative values
for the turbulent-exchange coefficient. It is not a priori clear how and when one should make corrections to the phenomenological turbulent-transport equations.
The authors have tested a way of closing the turbulence equations in which the turbulent stresses are functions not only of the average velocities but also of the
gradient in the angular velocity. On the whole, the analysis shows that this way of closing the equations correctly reflects the turbulent momentum transport. In
particular, a very important point is that one can describe the negative turbulent viscosity effect with good accuracy
