Glacier motion is considered as a one-dimensional problem of the flow of a viscous incompressible layer under gravity along an inclined plane, taking due account of the conduction of heat through the layer. Thickness and inclination angle have the greatest influence on glacial sliding. The glacier slides when the ice at the interface reaches melting point.
