Аннотация:If we consider translation as a specific type of speech activity, then we can assume that material from the first foreign language can also be used to form translation skills. The paper focuses on the didactic potential of such approach using the example of specific tasks for Czech language students. The use of English in a traditional Slavic-Slavic translation avoids negative interference from the native language and expands opportunities for positive transfer from the first foreign language. Although there is no theoretical translation course in the curriculum for non-philological students, the involvement of the first foreign language gives an opportunity to demonstrate different ways of translation and evaluate the effectiveness of individual translation techniques in practice. Analysis of actual materials increases motivation and plays a facilitating role in the process of learning Czech as a second foreign language.
