Аннотация:This paper considers the problem of binary asteroid orbit determination from a new Bayesianperspective. The orbital parameters are modelled using a likelihood term, based on the givenobservations, and a prior term that introduces the available knowledge about the parametersto be determined. Within this context, the estimator of the orbital parameters is computedusing a global optimisation procedure: the simulated annealing algorithm. The presented newmethod is compared with the classical least squares technique of orbit fitting. The least squares estimator assumes the errors affecting the observations to be non-correlated and requires the initial condition to be close to the final solution, which is unknown. These hypotheses are not necessary for the solution we propose. The conclusion based on the obtained results is that the two methods are complementary, allying numerical efficiency and freedom of modelling
