Аннотация:Abstract:
The process of bubble coalescence is an important phenomenon, which has great
influence on bubble sizes, gas volume fraction and gas-liquid mass transfer in many
natural and technological processes. The physical laws that determine the bubble
coalescence rate are not yet well understood. So, for example, most if not all
mathematical models of coalescence have been developed based on the so-called
"drainage mechanism" coalescence. These models contain at least two (or three)
adjustable parameters. The values of these parameters are recommended by various
authors may differ by several times.
In this chapter, it was developed an alternative approach describing the process of
bubble coalescence. It based on the assumption that the probability of bubble coalescence
is completely determined by the dimentionless parameters of the liquid and bubbles
before their collision. In this case, there is no need for any assumptions about physical
mechanisms of the process of coalescence. The author‘s experimental data were used
together with data available in the literature to develop a dimensionless correlation for
predicting the bubble coalescence probability in this way.
Validity of the basic models of bubble coalescence including a novel dynamic model
was investigated, using the method of Direct Computer Simulation and representative
experimental data. It is shown that the proposed dynamic model of bubble coalescence
gives the best description of the coalescence process and, accordingly, the spatial
distribution of bubble sizes and other characteristics of gas-liquid systems.
