Аннотация:The book reviews worldwide karst problems including those in the Dead Sea (DS) region. Different geophysical methodologies employed for resolving these problems are described and explained in detail. The first part of the book presents an overview of the karst problem worldwide. It includes general classifications of the karst types, the solubility of rocks, distribution of different types of karst through the world, geophysical methods applied to karst, and sinkhole problem resolving. The second part focuses on the Dead Sea evaporite karst, including its features and methods of investigation. This section also includes a review of geophysics for karst investigations in different karst regions, such as Florida and Virginia (USA), Dinarid karst in Yugoslavia, travertine karst in Italy, evaporite karst in Spain, and some others. The third part of the book contains a general review of the DS karst and sinkholes and essential peculiarities of their geological-geophysical investigation. The fourth part presents a comprehensive overview of practically all geophysical methods that have been applied in the Dead Sea region. For each method, the authors provide a short description and methodology of the application under the Dead Sea coast conditions. Finally, the fifth part describes preferences of the integrated interpretation of geophysical methods in the complex DS physical-geological environments.
